The School Innovation Development Project (SIDP) is a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among Government and Government-aided students in grades 6 to 12 in Tamil Nadu.
It was launched by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute of Tamil Nadu (EDII-TN) in collaboration with the Department of School Education and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
SIDP empowers students to think creatively, develop innovative solutions, and nurture entrepreneurial skills. Through workshops, hands-on learning experiences, and mentorship, the project encourages students to explore the realms of design thinking, idea generation, and prototype development, thus preparing them to become future leaders and innovators.

Phases of SIDP 3.0 (2024-25)
Students in grades 6 to 12 from Tamil Nadu government and government-aided schools are invited to register on the UPSHIFT Portal.
UPSHIFT E-learning portal offers innovation-focused modules with animated videos for guide teachers and students. Participants can submit their innovative ideas upon completing the course.
To participate in the School Innovation Development Project (SIDP), your submission must present an original and creative idea, and it must be approved by both the school head and the guide teacher.
Idea evaluation is crucial in the innovation process, ensuring only the best concepts are pursued. Systematic assessment through screening, feasibility analysis, market evaluation, impact analysis, and prototype testing improves innovation quality.
The District Boot Camp is a vital part of the SIDP, providing hands-on training in design thinking, business modeling, and idea generation. It also covers prototype development and evaluation, aiming to foster innovation and empower educators to mentor students effectively.
At the state level, the top 40 district teams will pitch their ideas. The top 10 teams may receive Rs. 1,00,000 each, while the remaining 30 will get Rs. 25,000 each. This pitch allows participants to present their ideas and prototypes to a panel of judges.
The SIDP Demo Day and Award Function is a significant event where winners of the Final Pitch will be recognized and rewarded.
The MSME Minister will be present to distribute cash awards to the top-performing teams. This event celebrates the innovative achievements of the participants and provides an opportunity for networking and showcasing their successful projects.
They will provide orientation and training to District Coordinators, District Eco Coordinators, on various aspects of the SIDP. This includes topics like Design Thinking, Business Model development, Innovative Idea Generation, and Prototype Development.
Master Trainers are responsible for conducting Guide Teachers Training in all districts
They will use a standardized set of criteria to evaluate the ideas, which may include aspects like Creativity, problem-solving ability, market potential, sustainability, and the practicality of implementation.
Evaluators will score each submission based on predefined metrics and rank them accordingly.
